Full Job Description
The Public Health Programme Officer will be a key member of the Wider Determinants Team within Public Health, contributing to projects that address the social, economic, and environmental factors influencing health. This work directly supports the Council's priorities to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities. The post-holder will lead on the Work and Health agenda, maintaining strong connections with Economic Development, coordinating Individual Placement Service (IPS) programmes across Berkshire, develop inclusive growth initiatives, and develop a revenue generating programme though Healthy Workplaces initiative. Scope of Work: This role focuses on taking action to reduce health inequalities across Slough by addressing the broader determinants of health, beyond lifestyle factors, through effective strategy, policy development, service commissioning, and partnership working. Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting and influencing agendas such as worklessness, employment barriers, Individual Placement Services, economic development, Making Every Contact Count (MECC), employee well-being, and workplace health.
- Using public health methodologies to develop evidence-based policy recommendations and working with relevant policymakers to embed them into practice.
- Commissioning associated services, developing business cases, contributing to action plans, and presenting findings and proposals at various forums.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to drive forward key initiatives and contribute to the wider team workplan. Reporting and Collaboration: The post-holder will report to the Public Health Principal and work closely with colleagues across Updated January 2024interfacing Public Health portfolios. Additionally, they will be expected to contribute to wider thematic areas and projects with appropriate support.
