Full Job Description

We are seeking a Publicist to join our team based in Salford. This is a twelve month fixed term contract to cover a maternity leave., As a Publicist you will lead the publicity campaigns for a mix of titles commissioned and produced by BBC Sport - a department that is admired around the world.

  • You will be passionate and enthusiastic about sport, TV and the industry and you will have responsibility for finding different ways to generate interest in what we do.

  • You will be a creative communications professional who can plan and execute proactive publicity campaigns, identify and manage reputational issues and work closely with talent and production executives.

  • You will spot opportunities to maximise coverage across a range of media including print and online press, broadcast, podcasts and social media, plan events and you will collaborate with internal teams across the BBC to deliver effective campaigns that drives audiences and reaches them wherever they are.

    Experience in creatively promoting content with understanding of how to utilise social media and digital opportunities to build interest

  • Passion for sport and ideally experience in a sport comms role

  • Knowing how to run publicity campaigns and successfully plan and handle announcements to secure print, online and broadcast coverage that reaches the most appropriate audience wherever they are

  • A creative thinker that can maximise publicity opportunities through multiple channels with the ability to plan events that deliver content and drives attribution

  • Proven track record working with both established and new talent

  • A great writer who can tailor their style to create stimulating copy for different mediums

  • A good understanding of the news agenda and cycle, with experience of using that knowledge to quickly spot a potential story and identifying ways to generate coverage

  • Experience of identifying and effectively managing reputational issues

  • An interest and passion for television plus a demonstrable understanding of the broadcasting landscape and industry plus knowledge of the BBC's organisational structure and policies.

  • A level of interpersonal and persuasion skills sufficient to enable the post holder to establish and maintain credible and effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts including contributors, talent, commissioners, producers, agents and journalists.

  • A natural collaborator with the confidence, tenacity and ability to work on initiative

  • Willingness to work in the evenings and weekends when required, including being part of the on-call rota
