Full Job Description

The Children's Publishing Development Editor will be responsible for maintaining the editorial quality and brand integrity of the global children's publishing programme within BBCS - which includes Bluey, Hey Duggee, Supertato, Something Special, Andy's Amazing Adventures and more. Supported by the Global Children's Publishing Manager, the role will ensure the development of children's publishing content proceeds smoothly, achieving production deadlines while maintaining a high degree of brand integrity and commercial competitiveness. Responsibilities

  • Ensure all content and product follows the editorial, tonal and design requirements of the relevant brand through adherence to style guides, guidelines, scripts, assets and episodic content - and that the necessary ethical and rights requirements are featured on all product.
  • Help project manage the creative approval process for publishing-related content from initial concept/line plan through to approving final samples. This content includes, but is not limited to, books and magazines, packaging, covermounts/premiums, audio formats, plus additional relevant formats, such as digital/interactive and marketing materials.
  • Develop strong relationships with rights owners to maximise brand potential. Where necessary, mediate between publishers and key stakeholders - notably any studios - to ensure content meets and exceeds both market, brand and editorial needs, reaching agreement with internal and external stakeholders before product is finalised.
  • Have a full understanding of the technical production requirements and market challenges facing our publishing and retail partners, effectively communicating any context to key stakeholders and providing solutions that maintain brand integrity and standards.
  • Working with the Global Children's Publishing Manager, effectively coordinate the development of global product across multiple publishing partners and their regional offices. Work with all relevant teams and stakeholders to ensure development is always on brand and adheres to all product development and approval stages.
  • Closely cross-reference proposed content against style guides, scripts, episodes, assets, existing titles and sounds/music effects to ensure each element closely reflects the brand's identity, tone, values and core design style. Provide publishing partners with clear feedback and guidance, collaborating with both partners and studios/creators on revisions to ensure final product achieves best-in-class status.
  • Work with publishers and key stakeholders to faithfully rework episodes into print/audio retellings, by analysing and identifying key storytelling beats, themes, outcomes, turning points, emotional layers, character phrases and visual moments.
  • Help oversee the sign-off of translated co-editions for books, magazines, audio and relevant marketing/digital content, sourcing international scripts and relevant materials to ensure global partners are able to uphold brand values and tone in their local languages.
  • Actively evaluate the product development needs of the publishing partners beyond core materials, helping to coordinate the planning and development of additional assets and guidance with the Creative team and rights owners, as required.
