Full Job Description

  • Could you develop and care for a Guide Dogs puppy from the age of 6-7 weeks to approximately 12-15 months in you own home?
  • You will be providing the puppy with a vital foundation for its future role as a guide dog with a blind or partially-sighted person. This is a full-time volunteering role as the puppy will live with the volunteer.
  • The role will involve feeding, training and generally caring for a puppy's needs on a daily basis. You will develop and care for a puppy as directed by your supervisor and as described in Puppy Raiser Policies and Procedures. Your role will be to familiarise the puppy with many different environments and teach basic obedience commands.
  • You will need access to a suitable area where the puppy could go to the toilet during the day, including first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Please note that you must be at least 18 years of age to be a Puppy Raising Volunteer., Expenses: Equipment/protective clothing

    A loving home with enough time to invest in raising a puppy and attending to their needs (e.g. toilet training). If you work from home or have hobbies, you'll need to be available to give the puppy regular attention alongside these.
  • Someone at home who is physically able to handle large breed dogs (around 25-40kg).
  • Access to a car, so that you can get your puppy used to travelling.
  • The agreement of your landlord to have a dog in the property if you rent your home.
  • A safe secure area outside for your puppy to go to the toilet.
