Full Job Description
Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Observer Instructor (QOI) to join our team based at RNAS Culdrose. This role will deliver ground-based observer, aircrewman and pilot training as required for Merlin Helicopter Force (MHF). We're proud to deliver the AESES (Air Engineering and Aviation Support) contract at RNAS Culdrose, supporting activities ranging from the repair and maintenance of military aircraft to off-aircraft support services. Culdrose is one of the Navy's two principal air bases, and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK. This vital role will form part of the Merlin Training Facility, with the capacity to support at other military establishments as required. The QOI will be responsible for training and support for the following training/courses:
- Ab-initio observer conversion to type (CTT) and conversion to role (CTR).
- Ab-initio aircrewman and pilot CTT and CTR.
- Instructor standardisation.
- Rotary Wing Test Squadron (RWTS) Mk2 Familiarisation.
- Mk 1 to Mk2 conversion.
- Merlin Refresher training.
- Maritime Counter Terrorism (MCT).
- Night Vision Device (NVD).
- Defensive Aids Suite (DAS).
- Merlin Simulator Operator training.
- Tailored training to support high readiness tasking.
- Minimum Annual Simulator Time Training (MAST). Other Accountabilities:
- Action any additional administration office duties that arise.
- Act as Duty MTF Officer when required.
- Host Visits.
- Attend and support the Flight Safety Committee, Training Meetings and Standardisation Meetings
- Ensure the Serco AESAS Support Manager is made aware of all business risks.
- Ensure best practice and assurance of regulatory compliance by the utilisation of DASOR, Assure and any other reporting medium to capture and communicate findings and actions from engineering, safety and near miss events.
- Monitor hazards and ensuring risks, and issues are identified and quantified.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and associated programmes when required.
- Remain flexible and carry out any other tasks within their capabilities and experience in support of the Contract as directed by the Contract Director or their representative.
Must have minimum B1 Grade with at least 500 hours Merlin HM Mk 1 or 2 and 300 instructional hours (simulated or airborne across aircraft types). Desirable A2/A1 Grade - A thorough and good working knowledge of the following:
- Completed a Maintenance Human Factors Course.
- Cleared to Secret UK Eyes only.
- To be compliant in Defence Systems Approach (DSAT) compliant in JSP 822.
- To be Defence Train the Trainer Qualified.
- Previous people management experience
- A good capability to work productively, efficiently & effectively with initiative and drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining operational outputs.
