Quality Engineer - Motoring

As the Quality Engineer for Motoring, your key focus is to ensure that Halfords products are fit-for-purpose, safe and legal. You'll be responsible for providing proactive and timely product technologist and quality assurance contribution to the development of products, product information and manufacturing processes relevant to Halfords products. Collaboration with Buyers and suppliers is key to align, develop and implement quality assurance processes, policies, procedures to meet standards, regulatory, and Halfords requirements. Key Accountabilities

• Evaluation of products to verify compliance with company standards and all relevant legislation.
• To propose quality improvements, concerns management activities and product development programmes.
• Completing product specifications and assessing suppliers to ensure they can consistently manufacture products to the correct specification.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams such as HGS, supply chain, Brand marketing to drive quality improvements and ensure a consistent quality experience and purchasing journey for customers.
• Travel as necessary within the UK, Europe and Asia in collaboration with HGS Teams in Hong Kong and Shanghai and Taiwan, to assure at-pace product development and in support of sourcing activities to fulfil the role.
• Actively engage with suppliers to reduce incoming defects
• Work and support across the Quality Team in other product areas, and development projects/activities, as required
  
  Professionally qualified to BSc in Engineering, Product Design, Applied Science or Manufacturing disciplines, or equivalent other experience.
• Likely, at least 2+ years experience of practical experience in product development and product technical/quality assurance in a Retail Quality/Technical/Technologist buying support role of General Merchandise or Consumer Products, and some specialist product or in-depth knowledge or subject matter expertise.
• Direct experience with Motoring product Category products, chemicals, mechanical products, electronics or Electrical Engineering, or hardline products would be desirable
• Knowledge and experience of product manufacturing and the quality principles involved (ISO 9000).
• Understand Customer needs and the translation of these to develop products
• Experience of manufacturing technologies, product design or sourcing with extended supply chain, digital business and the application of quality management systems would be beneficial.
