Full Job Description

At Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains we offer a 12 month Quality Engineering Placement which will tap into your passion and determination to win, giving you a real opportunity to contribute to our success on track. In Quality Engineering we work collaboratively across the business to enable the fast-paced development of technology by creating a dynamic and responsive supply chain. The team is responsible for ensuring that product is delivered on time, to specification and with full traceability against the specification.

As a department we pride ourselves on challenging and developing our trainees with a scheme which will provide exposure to our Formula 1 programs via ownership of a diverse portfolio of products.

Key Deliverables:

  • Quality Engineering leadership of a diverse portfolio of parts/suppliers via daily support to our Engineering, Purchasing, Production (Internal Manufacturing or via our approved External Supply Chain) and Inspection departments to resolve technical and non-conformance problems to enable on time delivery of parts to our specification.

  • Supply statistical data to the supply chain to highlight improvement opportunities leading to non-conformance reduction.

  • Lead continuous improvement activities to reduce cost, reduce lead-time and improve yield.

  • Support the new part design review processes to ensure current part quality performance, manufacturing challenges/capability and previous component failure history is reviewed. You will enable a new part specification which is capable and reliable, while meeting cost and delivery targets.

  • Expand the supply chain through on-site visits and audits, leading to Mercedes AMG HPP approval in readiness for new part introduction.

  • Lead root cause analysis using industry recognised analytical methods, to solve problems. Containment through to implementation of robust countermeasures so our F1 programmes stay on target and our Power Units remain protected from potential failure.

A curious, tenacious, and driven individual with a hunger to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Enrolled on a relevant Mechanical / Automotive / Mechatronics / Motorsport / Aeronautical Engineering or related degree on course for a 2:1 degree or higher.

  • A strong academic background in relevant A-Levels (Maths / Sciences) or equivalent disciplines.

  • An excellent understanding of engineering first principles.

  • Practical "hands-on" experience to complement your academic studies.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Self-motivation, adaptability and creativity.

  • Courage to challenge and desire to be challenged, to expand your technical knowledge and skills.

Here at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, quite simply, we're looking for the best. Those who want to be progressively challenged.

  • Those who are hungry for success. Those who want to win.

To make sure that we are continuously competitive, we invest heavily in our student programmes and look to develop the best emerging talent to become permanent members of our talented, curious and tenacious team.

We've now opened our application window for our 2024 vacancies! We have over 50 opportunities available, across all disciplines, for exceptional students to join our Eight-time World Championship winning team at our state-of-the-art Technology Centre in Northamptonshire.

Our development programmes span all aspects of Engineering (from Mechanical, to Electrical, to Software), Operational opportunities (Programme Management, Purchasing and Manufacturing) as well as Corporate Services (HR, IT and Finance).

We can offer you the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art Technology Centre. You will be supported by a wealth of expertise, while you will take on the challenges to deliver championship-winning Formula 1 parts on time to specification.

This is a fantastic opportunity to start a career in Formula 1, enhancing your knowledge and gaining vital experience to supplement your current degree learning.
