Full Job Description

This role is required as part of the UK Apache Long Term Training and Support Service (LTTSS) contract. The first two AH-64E model Apache attack helicopters were delivered to the British Army in November 2020. The delivery is the result of an agreement for 50 of the E models signed in 2016 between the U.S. and UK governments. Delivery of the fleet is expected to be completed in 2025. Boeing Defence UK Ltd is looking to appoint a Quality Lead to take responsibility for the Apache (AH-64E) Programme and ongoing QA leadership responsibilities at Middle Wallop & Wattisham Flying Station. This person should be a dynamic self-starter with a strong ability to lead and motivate others to ensure that the programme is implemented within the time-frames required working closely with the other functions involved. BDUK's Quality Management System (QMS) is approved by the MAA and meets the requirements of MAOS, DAOS and CFAOS providing full support for the statement of work to be performed. The Quality system is also certified to ISO9001:2015, AS9100D and AS9110C. This is a full-time role based at Wattisham Airfield, Ipswich. Responsibilities

  • The Operations Quality Lead in conjunction with other functions will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation has all required approvals / accreditations, processes and procedures in place to support maintenance activities on the AH-64E thereafter responsible for managing the day to day quality issues / concerns as they arise to ensure continued compliance and delivery of safe airworthy aircraft.
  • The Operations Quality Lead is a part of the Vertical Lift Quality Pillar of the BDUK Quality Function working with colleagues at other BDUK sites to promote best practices, continuous improvement and staff development and mentoring. The Operations Quality Lead reports to the VL Quality Manager.
  • The Operations Quality Lead will be responsible for ensuring appropriate resourcing and tasking for all programme activities and be responsible for the day to day assignment of work to Quality Specialists.
  • The Operations Quality Lead shall be responsible for maintaining weekly briefings to include: Programme Management Meetings (PMM), Quality Managers and Team Leads meeting and their team meetings.
  • They shall also be responsible for the Middle Wallop Operations Quality Team on a daily basis within the Phase Support Unit and Operational Conversion Unit.
  • Specific duties include:
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the BDUK organisation on major matters pertaining to its quality policies, plans, and quality objectives to ensure compliance with regulatory approvals / accreditations
  • Regularly contributing to the development of new job practices, techniques, and the application of quality standards throughout the BDUK organisation.
  • Performing work and tasks with the minimal direction whilst exercising a professional attitude in determining objectives and approaches to specific tasks and assignments.
  • Developing solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and innovation, ensuring that solutions are appropriate, consistent and aligned to the organisational business objectives.
  • Support and promotion of the BDUK Quality Management System and its related processes.
  • Management of the Audit Programme within 'Centrik' for activities undertaken at Middle Wallop and Wattisham Flying Station including; internal auditing, non-conformance / corrective action management.
  • The ability to act as Lead Auditor to support with internal audits (as required)
  • Facilitation and support with external / 3rd party audits in support of approvals / accreditation held.
  • Attendance at Quarterly Quality Assurance Group meetings with the customer.
  • Management of Operations Quality requirements as required at Middle Wallop
  • Work with local WCQP representatives to drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Development of First Time Quality (FTQ) Metrics for Operations Quality
  • Lead RCCA Activity (as required) to Improve FTQ and reduce the cost of rework
  • Support the review of potential suppliers for inclusion on the BDUK list of approved suppliers.
  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring on the BDUK Quality Management System.
  • Support company efforts to ensure that contractual deliverables comply with customer, company, quality, industry and regulatory requirements.

    Level 4 qualification (or above) in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Aerospace / Defence background
  • Previous Rotorcraft or Apache AH-64D/E knowledge and experience
  • Previous experience of Quality Assurance Management
  • Lead Auditor

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…)
