Full Job Description

To develop and manage quality management systems for the site, support and manage technical related activities on site, to assist achieving and maintaining BRC AA grade certification. Enhance implementation QMS standards across food production and storage areas on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the highest technical standards on both Food Safety and Quality are achieved for all foods produced at Bigham's. Main Responsibilities Quality Management Systems:

  • Manage the development and continuous improvement of the quality management system, including all procedures, policies, and codes of practice and ensuring compliance to BRC standard.
  • Document controller - Maintain the document control system, history of amendment logs and QMS folders. Responsible for coordinating all changes to existing documentation.
  • Internal audits - Develop and manage internal auditing programme. Ensure compliance to schedules, carry out internal audits, maintain records and corrective action log. Drive corrective action close out by working with relevant managers. Complete trending and reporting on compliance and non-conformance categorisation.
  • Pest Control champion - manage all aspects of site pest control in compliance with BRC / retailer policies. Liaise with pest contractor to maintain folders, trending and corrective action, Liaise with site teams to ensure close out of actions in timely manner
  • Lead HACCP validation - annual validation of all CCPs and new equipment relating to CCPs. Generating summary reports for validation testing including product cooking verification.
  • Allergen management (manage risk assessments, creation and update of allergen related paperwork / allergen lists and labelling of RM, Manage sampling and testing schedules and carry out validation and verification of equipment and processes, drive corrective action plan to resolve any failures. Provide support to ensure allergen management systems are compliant to BRC and customer requirements
  • Support traceability exercises and mock recall - Work with other departments to improve traceability system
  • Product Launches:
  • Product launches - prepare and manage maintenance of production kitchen paperwork as required
  • Taste panel and positive release - manage risk assessments, scheduling, ordering, taste panel sessions, reporting and trending. Liaise with other departments to drive improvements and key actions in response to failures or trends. Support training team on carry out Sensory Screening
  • Micro - scheduling, ordering, results analysis, resampling, coordinate corrective actions and reporting/ trending. Coordinate hygiene meeting and liaise with relevant areas to reduce micro failures
  • Shelf-life determination and testing - coordinating samples and analysing results
  • Production kitchen - creation of paperwork/ internal labels for NFD/ EFD launches where applicable
  • General:
  • Facilitate/support BRC audit and other 3rd party audits/visits with aim to achieve successful BRC AA grade audit. Support with closing out any non-conformances
  • Budget management - Responsible for ordering all consumables including weekly stock variance investigation and reporting/investigating any variance to budget
  • Coordinate, generate and deliver (if required) technical specific training across the business to embed any new ways of working
  • Absence cover for other technical team members as required
  • Document control - document control of any documents relating to job role. Provide cover for other document control as required

    What you'll need
  • Experience of managing a quality management system in a technical or quality management role within a BRC A grade accredited chilled food organisation
  • Experience of writing and implementing existing and new quality management procedures, completing risk assessments and
  • Experience of training and embedding new ways of working
  • Food Science or Technology Degree qualified (or similar)
  • Food Safety and HACCP qualifications
