Full Job Description

The Energy Markets team at Octopus Energy is responsible for making sure that we always have the electricity and gas we need to support our customer demand whilst also supporting the grid to enable the Net Zero transition. We are looking for a Quantitative Developer with electricity market experience to join our Group Risk team. You will play a key role in the support and development of risk and trading technology to help us optimise and automate this important task. Using your market and technical knowledge you will enhance the logic behind our price curve evaluation, develop the trade capture pipeline, reporting and scenario modelling across all regions as we continue to grow quickly. You'll be given the autonomy to solve problems and shape solutions across our trading and risk platform whilst benefiting from the support of our engineering, forecasting and trading teams.   • Monitor market changes to ensure our risk pipelines are accurate for each Octopus geography;
  • Develop and implement logic for producing accurate forward price curves;
  • Work with the trading team to highlight areas of risk that may impact their decisions;
  • Work with the Power Purchase Agreement team to ensure we're using the most appropriate price curves as a basis for contracts with generators;
  • Help to globalise the existing platform as we expand our codebase to enhance our view of risk across the wider Octopus Group.

    Experience and solid commercial understanding of at least one European power market;
  • Knowledge of the UK/other European power or gas markets is beneficial but not essential if you are eager to learn;
  • Experience with stack modelling and curve simulation would be advantageous;Strong aptitude in SQL and Python for analysis and pipeline development;
  • Team player excited at the idea of ownership across lots of different projects and tools;Open to travelling to Octopus offices across Europe and the US;
  • You have a drive to keep up to date with industry standards, best practices, and available market data.
