Full Job Description

We are expanding our commercial management team to support National Highways' annual £1bn investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network. As part of this, we have exciting opportunities for Quantity Surveyors, with defined cost audit experience, to join our centralised audit team. You will lead on the commercial and contract management of defined cost audits supporting a portfolio of schemes individually varying in value from £1m to more than £30m. The nature and diversity of the portfolio ensures the opportunity for you to enhance your skills, capabilities and experience in a complex delivery environment. In addition to auditing you will spend a portion of your time leading and supporting the commercial delivery of schemes for the regional office's local renewals capital programme. The role can be based from any of the following UK offices: Bristol, Basingstoke, Maidstone, Birmingham, Bedford, Nottingham, Warrington or Preston, however regular travel to Birmingham to attend team days will be required, together with travel to Contractors offices to carry out cost audits. In all cases we have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of working in your local office/agile home working. What you'll be leading on

  • Lead on cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions
  • Day to day contract and commercial management including managing communication and notifications to timescales, managing and valuing compensation events and early warnings and review and agree final account using CEMAR contract management portal.
  • Assess payment applications using National Highways CEMAR.
  • Provide contractual advice to the business and the service delivery team.
  • Act as a line manager and mentor to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduates and Apprentices and provide on-going support in their professional development.

    Relevant degree and/or have secured chartered professional status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or above), the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (MCInstCES or above) or an equivalent membership of a relevant professional body (Candidates not holding chartered professional status must be able to demonstrate substantive and direct personal experience working as a quantity surveyor having regard to the experience requirements listed under business knowledge and experience above)
  • Demonstrable experience in option C/E defined cost auditing for people and equipment against NEC schedule of Cost Components
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering quantity surveying/commercial functions, preferably in a civil engineering/infrastructure environment, desirably using NE4C forms of contract
  • Proficient user of excel and familiarity with contract management and administration software systems (e.g. CEMAR)
  • Experience of successfully delivering multiple projects in a comparable environment working for either the client or contractor.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills is desirable.
