Full Job Description

Here at National Highways, we have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team within Operations. The Quantity Surveyor will provide expert commercial and contract management services to the National Highways Maintenance and Response Framework Contract and provide commercial advice and support to the service delivery team and manage a portfolio of cyclic maintenance, reactive maintenance and minor capital works in the region of £10 million per year. Please note that this is a hybrid position and can be based from either of our Darlington or Leeds offices however, frequent attendance to the Darlington office on a weekly basis will be required. What you'll be leading on

  • Provide contractual advice to the business and the service delivery team.
  • Day to day contract and commercial management including managing communication and notifications to timescales, managing and valuing compensation events and early warnings, and review and agree final accounts using CEMAR contract management portal.
  • Assess payment applications using National Highways 'Confirm' Enterprise Asset Management portal.
  • Provide regular cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions.
  • Monitor actual costs against budget and prepare contract forecasts, identification of risks and opportunities to Opex and Capex budgets.
  • Act as a line manager and mentor to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduates and Apprentices and provide on-going support in their professional development.

    B.Sc(Hons) in Quantity Surveying or similar / extensive experience working as a QS within a commercial function delivering value to the business, preferably experience working on civil engineering projects.
  • Membership of or be working towards a Chartered qualification within a relevant professional organisation, such as RICS, ICES,
  • Excellent commercial awareness and experience with successfully delivering a variety of projects using different forms of contract (NEC desirable).
  • Proficient user of MS Software specifically Excel and familiarity of contract management and payment administration software e.g. CEMAR, Confirm.
  • Demonstrable experience of mentoring and training to commercial teams and supporting their professional development is desirable.
  • You will have good written and verbal communication skills enabling you to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
