Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of our fastest growing departments here at MSC Cruises. We are looking for an R&D Technical Engineer to support the New Building Technical Director in the technology development efforts for the research and development of MSC Cruise's various maritime technology projects.,

  • Perform market research to determine what types of products might be technically successful, research product ideas to determine their viability, and research how existing products on the market are performing.
  • Assist the Research & Development area of expertise in meetings and visits with stakeholders.
  • Keep appraised of current and changing marine engineering practices in the MSC Cruise and receives and acts on feedback on the performance of vessels in service.
  • Collaborate in the design development, system, and evaluation of equipment specifications to ensure that all statutory, Company safety and operational standards and requirements are observed throughout.
  • Conducts research and development activities.
  • Monitors products and performance of manufactures that provide fleet equipment and services.
  • Liaise with the New Building Technical Director in continually updating the specifications of the vessels under construction or conversion to ensure that accurate records of all changes are maintained and that on delivery or re- delivery of the vessels an "as fitted" specification is available.
  • If needed assist in manage Department workflow in terms of reviewing specifications, drawings, diagrams, and he technical submissions in accordance with stablished procedures.
  • Follow up and provide technical input on warranty failure claims in conjunction with the Guarantee Engineer.

  • To maintain contact with Shipyards, the Classification Societies, Regulatory Bodies, Professional Bodies, subcontractors, and equipment manufactures within the levels determined by the Management to continually monitor developments in the field of defined responsibility.
  • To support as requested by the Management in developing procedures and schedules for the inspection and testing of the equipment and systems and subsequent protection against damage and misuse.

  • QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience) Language: Essential: Fluency in English. Desirable: Working knowledge of additional European Languages (Italian - French). Education - essential: Degree in specialist area with MSc, MEng desirable or Class 1 Certificate of Competency as Marine Engineer or significant technical experience in the relevant area. Experience - essential:
  • Substantial experience of working in environments such cruise shipbuilding.
  • Substantial experience working with Marine Engineers and developers.
  • Substantial experience in performing market research.
