Full Job Description

RACE's objective is to create an internationally recognised centre of technical leadership for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments, delivering complex solutions, developing new technologies and supporting UK industry. To support this Graduate Control Systems/Software Engineers will perform a variety of mechatronics engineering tasks designed to provide experience & familiarisation with staff, methods, practices, & programs of the organisation. This may include being able to:

  • Assist in developing and pursuing the RACE technology roadmap
  • Execute RACE project and operational responsibilities in collaboration with external partners and within allotted time scales and budget constraints
  • Support business development to create future opportunities
  • Manage their own development continuously working towards building their knowledge & skills
  • Additional Responsibilities: This is a graduate entry learning role. As part of being on the Graduate Scheme 20% of the time will be allocated for development: to fast track the knowledge, skills and experience with training. It is expected that the Graduate Control Systems/Software Engineer will perform a variety of tasks across the three disciplines covering Technical / Professional knowledge, Project Management and People Management. To perform a variety of mechatronics engineering tasks designed to provide experience & familiarisation with staff, methods, practices, & programs of the organisation. This may include operating, maintaining & demonstrating equipment. Work will be peer reviewed by supervisors or higher-level engineers. This may include: -
  • Design, specification, implementation and development of control systems for the hardware, transporter and handling systems
  • Specification, design, coding, implementation of real time control software
  • Analysis, modelling and optimisation of multi-variable servo control systems
  • Preparation of quality control documentation for the commissioning, testing and sign-off of the systems for operational use
  • Providing the expertise and experience to participate in the commissioning of these systems
  • Design and practical implementation of electro-mechanical control systems
  • Programming with real time software for control of servo-actuator systems
  • Mathematical modelling and optimisation of servo systems
  • C, C++ languages and the principles of real-time control
  • Producing high quality documentation
