Full Job Description

We are looking for an accomplished radio presenter/producer for our Monday evening community show focusing on our South Asian Communities. The role will be based in Birmingham but the programme will be shared across the region on BBC Radio WM, BBC CWR, BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Radio Stoke and BBC Hereford and Worcester. The programme is a mix of local, national and international news and current affairs, alongside music and laughter. As well as presenting the show, the successful candidate will be responsible for finding stories, creating the content, setting the agenda, sourcing guests and contributors and recording and editing material. You'll know what is going on in the South Asian communities across the West Midlands and who to speak to, to bring original stories to life. The role will also include repurposing and sharing content from the show for use across other linear and digital output.,

  • To have an accomplished and engaging radio presentation style.
  • To be experienced in the production of a range of material for radio including music and speech.
  • To be able to present/produce breaking news, human interest, outside broadcasts and more personality based material.
  • To have an understanding of the South Asian Communities across the region and be able to produce engaging content for that audience.
  • To have a broadcast manner which is engaging, entertaining and be adept at making complex issues accessible.
  • To generate ideas and stories as well a creative treatments.
  • To research, script and present content in accordance with the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
  • To make the best use of new technologies - in particular, developments in social media - in delivering our content to audiences and to set an example in learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods.
  • To build and maintain diverse contact lists and databases; compile and distribute information to other members of the team.
  • To be comfortable in sourcing, briefing and setting up a diverse range of guests.

    A high standard of editorial judgment and production skills based on substantial broadcast experience.
  • Experience of presenting content as presenter/correspondent/reporter or contributor.
  • A thorough understanding of production methods used across the audio portfolio and the ability to adapt to new media.
  • To have a developed/specialist knowledge of the local area, and the relevant communities with the patch
  • To have an understanding of how the BBC's Impartiality Guidelines may apply to the role.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of broadcast technology.
  • Strong team working and ability to build strong relationships with key people in other parts of the BBC.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the Corporation.
  • To have the ability to convey story and programme ideas and to lead the planning process.
  • The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
  • An understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting.
