Full Job Description

The IR department has 2 IR theatres containing Siemens Artis Q systems, 1 Ultrasound room and a 5 bedded recovery area. The department covers a variety of procedures and specialties based at the Aintree site such as; Trauma, MFU/ENT, Regional Vascular and Regional Stroke. There are various roles within the team including RPS,QA, PPE audits and the general day to day running of the department. The purpose-built hybrid theatres complex has opened containing 3 theatres of which 2 are Vascular hybrids containing Siemens Artis Phenos. Staff must be willing to partake in shift week rotations alongside the On Call Rota to facilitate the OOH working required for Interventional Radiology and Vascular Theatres. Outside of radiology we also support the Cardiac Cath Lab, which is a single plane lab which undertakes Permanent Pacemaker implantations and Diagnostic coronary angiograms. Applicants must be willing to train and work in all areas of IR, Hybrid, Cath Lab and General Radiography. There is a need to work shifts and partake in an On Call Rota. All staff are responsible for reporting equipment faults and dealing with suppliers/clinical teams regarding equipment repair or emergency issues that need to be addressed., 1. Participate in the radiographic rotation through the highly specialised areas such as Interventional Theatres, Cardiac Catheter Lab and Vascular Hybrid theatres. The post holder will also be expected to work all areas of the General X-ray department, including theatres. 2. Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the Area Lead in each section. 3. Participation in the 24/7 On-Call rota for Interventional Radiology. 4. Work shifts as part of the Vascular Theatre Rotation. 5. Participation in the vetting of appropriate request forms and discussion with the medical team regarding appropriateness and urgency of examinations in association with the Area Lead in charge of the area. 6. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working. 7. To practice within the rules of the Health Professions Council. 8. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care. 9. To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination. 10. Supervision and assistance in training of entry grade student radiographers, assistant practitioners and band 5 radiographers. 11. Assist in the training of student radiographers and qualified radiographers in setting high standards of radiography in patient care and enabling each radiographer to become conversant with all the radiography duties in General radiology and Interventional Theatres. 12. Close liaison with the Area leads to organise and supervise workflow in the area. 13. Responsible for the injection of contrast media for enhanced examinations, and awareness of type of contrast media required for different examinations. 14. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy in order to retrieve imaging to assist Interventional Radiologists with performing procedures. 15. Report and record faults on equipment as and when they occur. RADIATION PROTECTION 1. Ensure radiation doses to every patient are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) consistent with a diagnostic result. 2. To work to radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations. 3. To comply with IR(ME)R 2017 & IRR 2017. 4. Perform regular QA on equipment in all areas of work. Clinical Governance / Quality 1. To comply with the Health and Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at mandatory training sessions as specified. All employees have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to themselves or to others and to co-operate with the Trust in meeting its statutory requirements. 2. To comply with departmental and organisational policies and procedures including reporting of all accidents and incidents. 3. Monitor the condition of equipment within the Radiology area advising of any defects in equipment or systems thus providing an early warning for potential hazards. 4. To ensure that potential hazards are identified and reported to the correct authority as necessary. 5. To participate in clinical audit as appropriate. To assist in the Quality Assurance requirements for the Directorate.

An opportunity has arisen for motivated Radiographers with a specialist interest in Interventional Radiology to work within the Interventional and Hybrid Theatre suites along with Cardiac Cath Labs and the Radiology department, at Liverpool University Hospital. This role will be based on the Aintree site. The role encompasses a full time Radiographer role for Interventional, Hybrid & Cardiac Catheter Lab. There is an expectation to work within the General Radiology Department and participation in the 24/7 on call rota for acute Interventional and Vascular shift work is essential. For staff who have limited or no previous experience in Interventional, Hybrid Vascular or Cath Lab Imaging, we would be willing to offer a comprehensive training opportunity, this would be available to both band 5 and band 6 candidates under Annex 21 AFC Terms & Conditions. The post is ideal for a suitably experienced professional to extend their skills and experience whilst working in a truly team-based environment. We are a large department consisting of Interventional Radiographers, Nurses, Support staff and Radiologists. We also are part of the registrar teaching programme and have radiographers who have been trained to scrub as part of IR procedures.
