Full Job Description

The department delivers radiotherapy services for a broad spectrum of cancers which include a wide range of common cancers as well as specialist treatments including a paediatric and adolescent workload, brachytherapy and isotope work, total body irradiation and sarcoma radiotherapy. Many of the patients will be coming in daily for a five-to-six-week period, so they will be able to get to know them, and help them feel at ease within the department., + To provide administrative and reception services to the RT department ensuring that quality standards are maintained whilst ensuring that patients and their families receive the highest level of service. + To greet patients and their relatives and carers in a courteous and helpful manner. + To check-in patients on the ARIA and EPIC computer system as soon as they arrive thereby ensuring that RT staff know that the patient is in the waiting room. + To ensure the waiting areas are kept neat and tidy at all times. + To communicate tactfully with patients, ensuring that they are treated in a sympathetic and caring manner, including cases where there may be communication barriers or where the patient is distressed. + To provide non-clinical advice and information to patients and their relatives and carers. + To help patients feel at home in London by providing information on the local area, and supporting them with transport and other enquiries. + To resolve queries from patients and their families where possible and ensure that any complaints/problems are channelled to the appropriate staff if necessary. + To be aware of patients wellbeing whilst in the RT waiting room, contacting a relevant member of staff as appropriate. + To inform patients of approximate waiting times, an, + To direct patients to the sub-waiting area or departments as required, arranging porters to assist them if necessary. + To ensure that telephones are answered promptly and politely and that accurate messages are taken and passed on to the appropriate person speedily. + To ensure that patients are aware of their subsequent RT appointments, associated planning appointments and clinic appointments. + To ensure patient and staff confidentiality is maintained at all times, in line with the Data Protection Act. + Develop the interpersonal skills required to co-operate with team members and others in the multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate care, information and support is given to all patients, their relatives and carers. + To use office and departmental equipment, including computer equipment, photocopier, etc. as required. + To ensure that any forms are kept stocked up, photocopying new supplies and ordering new stationery for the department as and when necessary. + To send and receive post or specimens through the pneumatic tube system, ensuring that the appropriate tube is used. + To receive and sign-for deliveries, alerting the recipient where necessary. + To complete and sign hospital attendance forms when required. + To ensure that stationery and patient related forms are replenished in the department. + To have a thorough knowledge and understanding of EPIC and ARIA computer systems. + To have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the layout of the department. + To assist in the training of permanent and temporary receptionists as and when required. + To assist in the training of student radiographers and preparing reports on their performance. + To arrange snack-boxes for patients when necessary. + To be prepared to be flexible in duties in order to maintain an efficient service., Please note that all correspondence regarding your application will be via email. The successful applicant will therefore need to have good communication and customer service skills. This position will also have a strong focus on delivering an excellent patient experience.

This post offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in the Radiotherapy service at UCLH at an exciting period of its development. The postholder will play a key role in providing a good service to patients. They will be responsible for checking patients in for their appointment, updating them on any delays and outcoming appointments. They will also be responsible for booking interpreters and transport when required. The department sees about 2000 new patients and administers over 3000 new courses of radiotherapy treatment per year.
