Full Job Description

This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of the radiotherapy/proton beam therapy review team at UCLH. The post holder will undertake rotations between the photon and proton departments. The role involves working and leading within the Radiotherapy Review Team; reviewing patients during their treatment and supporting them both physically and psychologically throughout their radiotherapy journey. They will be required to ensure there is an appropriate plan for the on-treatment review of each patient and a mechanism of communication to the wider MDT. The post holder will play a key role in helping patients understand the treatment process, toxicity and likely side effects of radiotherapy, along with providing them with advice on how to self-care and manage their symptoms appropriately. Any proton beam therapy or photon beam therapy training required relating to managing side effects of this treatment and other required underpinning knowledge will be provided. Training for on treatment review and independent/supplementary prescribing if required will be supported.Main duties of the job To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients. and take responsibility for their care. To take the lead as a specialist cancer resource, giving advice and support to patients, relatives and staff. To be responsible for protecting and supporting the health of individual patient, and acting as their advocate when necessary within the multi-disciplinary team. To be responsible for the assessment of care and health education needs. To develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient at the end of radiotherapy. To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care and the management of resources within the Radiotherapy review service To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care. To promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and work towards achieving the Trust "Top 10" Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice for the care of patients in their cancer journey To be responsible for the implementation and undertaking of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives To participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate and teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to junior nurses and others.
