Full Job Description

Reporting to the Area Ranger, the Ranger role in Arnside and Silverdale is very varied and no two days will be the same. Our land is made up of a scattering of countryside sites which range from Arnside Knott in the north, to Holme Park Fell in the east and extend down to Heysham Head at the south. Together, they form key elements in an incredibly diverse landscape and sit closely alongside many neighbouring conservation sites managed by other nature conservation partners and organisations.

Valuable habitats including ancient woodland, limestone pavement and species-rich limestone grassland provide the homes for an impressive range of rare and notable species. The area is extremely special to visitors due to its incredible wildlife and landscape and is enjoyed by many.

What you'll be doing

You'll work with a small team of Rangers and many extremely committed volunteers to manage some exceptional nature conservation sites. You'll help manage volunteers in all aspects of our work, including practical countryside management, ecological surveys and engagement work. You'll play a key role in enabling inspirational visitor experience by sharing your passion for the area and encourage public involvement with the conservation work that we do.

We're looking for you to join our team at Arnside and Silverdale. If you have experience in and a passion for practical conservation, volunteer management and community engagement then we'd like to hear from you. Working across a range of habitats, your love of the outdoors will inspire others who work alongside you or visit our sites., Part of the challenge of the role is to manage the many different needs of community, supporters and visitors in a balanced way that ensures their enjoyment, without overly impacting on wildlife, livestock or farmers. Your highly organised and self motivated approach will ensure you excel in this role., We'd love to hear from you if you're:

  • practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes

  • happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you're doing, and why it matters

  • hard-working and willing to learn

  • able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines

  • experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors

  • able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates

  • a driver with a full UK driving licence.
