Full Job Description

As a Clerical Officer you may be required to work 5 days out of 7, including occasional weekends and evenings if required, helping out in the office and on the reception desks. Computer literacy is essential because you would be expected to perform all aspects of administration including booking of appointments, and keeping hospital records accurately up to date. Excellent intercommunication skills and a friendly persona are also required because you will be liaising with member of the public, Radiology staff and other hospital workers. In return, you will receive training and support from a friendly and close-knit team who will help you to develop your office and administrative skills. The radiology department provides a wide range of imaging services across a range of specialities including:

  • Plain X-ray
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammography
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Fluoroscopy and interventional radiology
  • Services have been developed to provide extended opening hours (including weekends) for plain X-Ray ultrasound, CT and MRI appointments. The department also services the A&E department, providing access to plain X-rays and CT scans 24 hours a day, seven days a wee, North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Hospital Trust (NMUH) is one of London's busiest healthcare providers, providing hospital care and community services for the 350,000 people living in Enfield, Haringey and beyond. Our specialist services include HIV, cardiology, blood disorders, diabetes, fertility, sickle cell and thalassemia. In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients' wellbeing. We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.   • To work as part of a team alongside other clerical staff within the department and to be part of a wider multidisciplinary team delivering a high quality service to other staff and patients.
  • To make appointments in accordance with the national waiting time standard.
  • To help ensure that the North Mid NHS Trust meets the cancer target guidelines. To escalate the policy when patient appointments are being made outside the cancer target guidelines.
  • Retrieve and process mail, incoming and outgoing telephone calls in accordance with Trust Policies.
  • Provide professional reception cover, updating and correcting current patient details as necessary.
  • Receive patients and visitors to the clinic in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Accurately input, retrieve and collate information using departmental and Trust computer systems in a timely way being mindful of data protection at all times. This includes using the system Solitan.
  • To act on Solitan messages and emails which may include requests for reports and or notifications of unexpected findings.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to routine queries referring queries on to other personnel as appropriate.

    We are looking for a friendly, hard-working and self-motivated individual to join our close knit office team in Radiology. Although prior experience is welcomed, a passion for helping patients and smoothing their journey through our department is more important, we will therefore offer thorough training to the right candidate.

    Over 200 000 examinations are booked each year in the Radiology Department, this requires a highly trained and dedicated Clerical and Administrative team.
