Full Job Description

The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital are recruiting band 5 Registered staff (Staff Nurses / ODPs) to join their busy team on fixed term contracts. PACU is centrally placed in the Main Theatre Suite (of 17 theatres) and has 24 bays (including 4 paediatric bays). We also support activity in the Day Procedure Unit, two Obstetric Theatres, MRI / CT (for patients having had general anaesthesia) and the Brachytherapy Suite. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (nurse, ODPs, HCAs, TSWs, medical staff) you will care for adults and children in the immediate post-anaesthetic / surgical phase. Our values of People-focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence- PRIDE - are important to us and are integral to the role: Patients are at the heart of what we do in providing essential, optimal care from the emergence of anaesthesia to enable the safe transfer to the ongoing destinations (surgical wards / critical care complex), caring for over 2000 patients each month., The ability to communicate in a personable, approachable and respectful manner to individuals from inside and outside the organisation is essential to building the relationships needed to promote safe working practices - 'Human Factors' training has been introduced throughout the Trust as a mandatory requirement, to enhance our clinical performance through understanding the effects of teamwork and culture on human behaviour. The PACU Team is dedicated to improve patients' experience by undertaking Quality Improvement initiatives such as: expanding our services as a PACU, Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation and Improving care (surgical pathway) for patients with a Dementia diagnosis. We provide a supportive orientation programme - all trainees work In a supernumerary capacity alongside an assigned mentor until assessed as being competent to work independently. Support will be provided through our Education Facilitator. In-service training (study days) covering Recovery practices are already available and exciting opportunities such as simulation training are forthcoming. We encourage professional development of all our staff so we hope to see a willingness to develop in your application. As a teaching hospital we support student nurses and student ODPs from both adult and child branch, in collaboration with the UEA. We have received the award for Excellence in Student Support as part of the Mentorship Programme.
