Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our new reducing restrictive practice team. This team is a new innovation which will assist with ensuring our clinical teams develop understanding related to the functions behind dysregulated, distressed and challenging behaviour. The team will support staff teams to develop skills, knowledge and competency to support individuals without applying aversive and restrictive approaches. We are looking to recruit an individual who is highly motivated and passionate about ensuring clinical practice is compassionate, patient centred, mental health informed with an emphasis on understanding behaviour to support a more functional approach to care. Applicants should have the knowledge and skills in assessing patient's needs, positive behaviour support, teaching and have a person-centred approach to considering care arrangements . Main duties of the job This post will work across multiple sites to support the trusts strategy and implementation plan around mental health and reducing restrictive practice. This will consist of delivering high quality training as well as supporting clinical teams to implement what is learnt in the classroom into the clinical sphere. As part of the Reducing Restrictive Practice Team, this post will support the Lead for Reducing Restrictive Practice and Mental Health in the delivery of organisational objectives for education including theory and practical training across the Trust. This post will represent the Trust internally and externally and will ensure appropriate leadership in the promotion and delivery of education. A heavy emphasis will be on supporting clinical teams to develop competency in developing person-centred strategies to reduce restrictive practices. Specialist dissemination of knowledge and expertise in clinical practice is expected when supporting staff teams who provide care to people who are exhibiting dysregulated, distressed and potentially challenging behaviours. The post will work closely with the outside agencies to ensure all training aligns with standards as well as ensuring national guidelines and recommendations, trust policy and procedure are compliant.
- Professional qualification and / or registration or equivalent
- Qualification related to health and social care, teaching, PBS or equivalent clinical experience
- Achieved or willingness to complete level 3 AET teaching qualification
- Achieved or willingness to complete level 3 AET teaching qualification Desirable
- Evidence of degree / working towards higher degree or equivalent experience
- First aid at work Certificate Experience / knowledge Essential
- Evidence of supporting members of a team with leadership skills gained through theoretical knowledge and or experience
- Experience of mentoring, supporting and developing staff / delivering teaching (Presentation and demonstration skills).
- Experience and knowledge of multiagency working
- Experience of supporting patients / service-users with complex needs and / or in crisis
- Understands and overcomes barriers to communication and acceptance Desirable
- Experience of working in an acute mental health, forensic or learning disability setting
- Experience of working in a CAMHS inpatient setting
- Evidence of teaching / nurturing Skills and Ability Essential
- Responsibility & Accountability Contributes to decision making and able to assesses associated risks and takes appropriate action
- Ability to analyse and compare appropriate information before reaching a judgement, deciding and responding accordingly within own boundaries
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrates the ability to build a rapport quickly and efficiently
- Can communicate information that could be considered emotive and distressing
- Ability to undertake the physical and emotional demands and duties of this post.
