Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
  • It's not every day that you have an opportunity to be part of establishing an energy team in the West Midlands. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is taking on the exciting new role of being the Regional Energy Strategic Planner. We will be responsible for developing Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) for 11 regions across Great Britain, empowered through recent Ofgem decisions and an ongoing consultation. In this role, the successful candidate as the Regional Energy Strategic Planning Lead for the West Midlands will embed themselves in the region, working closely with local stakeholders to help drive acceleration towards net zero. The RESP Lead will harness whole energy systems thinking and will support cross-vector collaboration with the ultimate aim to play a part in producing a regional energy strategic plan for the West Midlands. Having an understanding and lived experience of the West Midlands will be key. A background in energy is preferable. We continue to offer hybrid working which involves quality in-person time with the wider team, which enables best practice and knowledge sharing.

We're forging the path, and we know we can't do it alone. That's why we need visionary minds like yours to join us on this transformative journey. In this case, we're looking for someone who has:
  • Experience of communicating with, and influencing, internal and external stakeholders across a range of levels. Possessing active listening skills is key to this role.
  • Experience with at least one of the following: gas / electricity networks, heat decarbonisation, hydrogen, transport and decarbonisation.
  • Experience of working with or within Local Authorities and/or energy distribution companies, ideally relevant to the region you seek to work within.
  • The ability to translate complex and technical information into easily understandable messaging for non-technical audiences, in both reports and presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project management, coordination and planning skills to ensure that deadlines are met, governance is adhered to, stakeholders are effectively engaged and high quality processes and outputs are achieved.
  • An inquisitive mind with the ability to join the dots and adapt in a fast-paced working environment.

The creation of National Energy System Operator (NESO) is driven by an urgent need to unify and optimise our approach to energy. A more integrated and coordinated strategy is needed to meet the unprecedented challenges of climate change, ensuring secure energy supply, and keeping costs manageable for consumers.
  • Join us and empower your potential, energise our team, and be part of something bigger. Your energy, our future, together.
