Full Job Description

The Regional Engagement Manager supports the Head of Government Relations in developing and sustaining the ATI's relationship with regional and devolved governments. Working within the External Relations team, you will lead the ATI's engagement with Regional Aerospace Associations, Devolved Administrations, Local Authorities and trade bodies. You will develop deep knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing aerospace clusters across the UK and develop ideas for how the ATI can help them grow. You will work closely with UK Government officials to ensure a supportive policy environment for aerospace across all parts of the country, and ensure their needs are understood in the development of the Government's new Industrial Strategy. This role reports to the Head of Government Relations but will work closely with all ATI teams. The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver the ATI's Regional Engagement Plan: deepening relationships with Regional Aerospace Associations, Devolved Administrations, Mayoral Combined Authorities, and trade bodies.
  • Design and deliver bespoke engagement with clear objectives (including visits, workshops, and briefings), working across ATI teams to deliver.
  • Support ATI's strategic engagement with government on regional and industrial policy, and input into strategic engagement planning. Share insights internally to shape thinking.
  • Develop analysis and recommendations for ATI's Spending Review bid and wider policy-shaping work (e.g. government consultations and Parliamentary Select Committee inquiries) and support the Head of Government Relations in similar tasks.
  • Regularly attend government and industry events across the UK to improve personal knowledge and the ATI's awareness on topics.

Communicator: Ability to communicate confidently in a variety of methods, including to senior decision-makers.
  • Collaborator: Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Analytical: Able to analyse data effectively to create digestible information and clear options for decision making.
  • Expertise: Knowledge of the UK aerospace industry and/or regional and industrial policy (e.g. the Industrial Strategy) is desirable but not essential. Candidates with a strong track record in similar stakeholder management roles will also be considered.
  • Organised: Manage multiple priorities and stick to deadlines.
  • Essential experience
  • Experience of working with and successfully delivering in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience of developing and presenting clear recommendations to decision-makers.

The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) is an independent company established as a collaboration between Government and Industry to set the UK's aerospace technology strategy and fund a wide variety of transformative research and technology projects, securing the UK's global leadership in aerospace technology.
  • The ATI's objective is to enable aviation to reduce its environmental impact through providing thought leadership on all aspects on the future of flight and through funding research projects that secure jobs, maintain skills, and deliver economic benefits across the UK. The UK government announced continued support for the Institute to 2031, with R&D funding of £975m. This will be matched by industry, generating funding of circa £2bn for UK aerospace R&D, building on the £3.2bn invested to date. In 2022 the ATI launched its latest technology strategy, Destination Zero, which sets the path towards achieving net zero carbon emissions for commercial aircraft by 2050 and positioning the UK as a leader in sustainable design, manufacture, assembly and operations. Setting out the priorities for investment, Destination Zero provides guidance and roadmaps for technological developments required across three technology areas of focus: zero-carbon emission aircraft technologies, ultra-efficient aircraft technologies, and cross-cutting enabling technologies and infrastructure. A key focus for the ATI is the development of opportunities that take forward the recommendations from its FlyZero project, an intensive independent research study investigating zero-carbon emission commercial flight. In March 2024 the ATI also launched a Non-CO[2] Programme to be delivered in partnership with Department for Business and Trade and Innovate UK. This will bring academia, government institutions, and industry players together to translate theoretical concepts into viable technologies for managing other atmospheric emissions beyond CO[2]. To support this, the ATI also published a Non-CO[2] Technologies Roadmap identifying priority areas for tackling these broader atmospheric emissions. Having been established 10 years, the ATI continues evolving with ambitious plans to deliver on its mission of transforming aerospace through technology and innovation. The UK aerospace sector is going through a major change cycle to meet its sustainability responsibilities, which entails substantial technology investment and development.Diversity & Inclusion We are experts in our field, trusted to be impartial in our activities, and present a fair and independent view. We are passionate about innovation and technology and understand the rewards of bringing together a diverse and forward-thinking team to explore, enhance and shape our aerospace agenda.
