Full Job Description

We work closely with the Environment Agency as it helps people and wildlife adapt to climate change and reduces its impacts, including flooding, drought, sea level rise and coastal erosion. We are looking for new independent members to join us as we carry out this important work. Your role with us By volunteering as an independent member of your local Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC), you'll help us manage flood and coastal risk in communities across your area You will give a voice to local communities, helping them to become more resilient and able to adapt to the challenges of climate change. As a member, you'll play a part in:

  • managing flood and coastal risk across your region
  • approving the projects and programmes of work that protect people's homes and livelihoods
  • developing the local partnerships that help pay for, build and manage these projects
  • This is a great opportunity to get involved in issues that really matter in your area, and to make a real difference to people's lives, livelihoods and the local environment. What's more, it's a chance to gain new skills and experience, and to build your professional network. RFCCs typically meet four times a year. We'll send you a briefing pack to read before each meeting. These roles are unpaid, but we cover reasonable expenses including travel and subsistence costs. What do I need? You don't need to be a technical expert or have specific qualifications. What matters most is your commitment to your local community and your passion for our work. We're looking for people who:
  • have an active interest in flood and coastal risk management
  • can represent the interests of communities across their region
  • are impartial and not representatives of any particular organisation
  • come from a diverse range of backgrounds

Regional Flood and Coastal Committees (RFCCs) are independent bodies who play a vital role in reducing the risk of flooding and coastal erosion and its impact on communities across England.
