  • To assist Medical and Dental professionals within the specialty. This will include Maxillofacial Surgeons, Orthodontists, Restorative and Cleft Specialists.
  • Promoting and coordinating the delivery of evidenced based care to these groups of patients.
  • Be accountable for the wellbeing of a patient during and after treatment.
  • Assist the Principal Dental nurses and Department Sister in the day to day management of the department.
  • Work together with the entire multi disciplinary team in developing a culture that meets the needs of the patients effectively and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with other healthcare providers and Primary Care teams.
  • Develop and perform additional nursing roles that are necessary to the needs of the OMFS outpatient group following appropriate education and training.
  • Work at all times within the General Dental Council 'Scope of Practice' (2002).
  • A stimulating and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Registered Dental Nurse to join our friendly and enthusiastic outpatient team. We are an acute hospital outpatient department treating adults and children with a wide range of oral and maxillofacial conditions, including orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial injuries, mouth cancer, disorders of the Temporo-Mandibular Joint, salivary gland disease and many others. We are keen to support the successful applicant with development opportunities into specialist areas of dentistry, such as undertaking Post-Registration Qualifications in Orthodontics, Intra-Oral Radiography, Oral Health Education, Safeguarding, Infection Control, Leadership, etc.

  • Registered on the GDC register for Dental Nurses.
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Dental Nursing or City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in dental nursing (QCF) or equivalent training and experience.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
  • Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of self-development needs.
  • Awareness of wider issues relating to health care and education.
  • Post registration course in Dental Radiography/ Oral health / Orthodontics and/or other specialist training, Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of dental procedures.
  • Proven experience in dental nurse practice or relevant Outpatient Setting
  • Desirable criteria
  • Previous acute hospital dental nursing experience.
  • Able to demonstrate the competencies needed to co-ordinate a clinical shift in OMFS department, Able to work in fast paced environment.
