Full Job Description

Battersea is seeking Registered Veterinary Nurses to join our Old Windsor team, who provide the very best care for the thousands of unwanted animals that pass through our shelter every year. There is one permanent opportunity available and an additional fixed-term contract is also available that will be approximately 6 months in length (with potential for extension to allow for training). Our team provide the highest standards of care in all clinical procedures, surgery, preventative medicine and infection control, observing the best principles of shelter medicine and working in our newly built, state of the art facilities. You'll be providing hands-on care for our animals and to support them on their whole journey through Battersea, from arrival to rehoming. You'll be working alongside colleagues across the charity to make a difference for every animal that comes through our gates, whether that's our large volunteer and fostering team or helping out at events. We are all here to champion rescue animals when it comes to finding the best possible outcome and there are no financial constraints to the care that we provide. Both opportunities are full time working 40 hours per week, 8am to 5pm, on a rota basis including some weekends and bank holidays.

At Battersea, we are committed to developing and supporting a diverse workforce and inclusive culture in all aspects of our organisation. We aim to ensure that this pledge, reinforced by our values, is embedded in our day-to-day working practices and our work together.

In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:

  • 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year
  • Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes
  • Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources
  • Generous pension contributions - up to 10% employer contribution
  • Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year
  • Annual interest-free season ticket loans
  • We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more. Working with our dogs and cats: We are here for every dog and cat. Within our operational roles, this means providing the highest level of care and husbandry to our animals. Every day will be different and will sometimes involve emotionally challenging situations. Battersea has created an ethos of open conversations and carefully curated wellbeing initiatives to support our employees handling these scenarios. It is also important to note that the role is very physical and does involve a lot of manual tasks which are required to provide the exceptional standards of care to our animals. We ask you consider these aspects of the role carefully before applying. Diversity and inclusion
