Reliability Engineering Specialist, Packet Core

The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a huge strategic priority for BT and our commitment to do the best for our customer and our country. ESN will be one of the most advanced Emergency Services Networks in the world and BT is proud to the official supplier providing mission critical and trusted communications for Britain's Emergency Services. The ESN will replace the existing Airwave network and building upon on EE's existing 4G network and to provide essential new voice, data services, and critical communications services to 300,000 members of frontline emergency service users. For over a decade, our mobile network has been a leader, adapting to digital transformation driven by software-based networks, next-generation services, and cloud technologies. Our Mobile Test and Innovation Labs integrate these future technologies early, ensuring BT and EE maintain top-tier service. The labs design, build, test, and deliver cutting-edge converged network services, leveraging advancements like 5G and Network Function Virtualization. The Packet Core team supports the development and testing of new services, enabling innovation and refining existing solutions to meet customer experience and network leadership goals. The successful candidate will be cleared to BPSS (or equivalent) as a minimum. You may even be required to undergo National Security Vetting (e.g. CTC, SC or NPPV). What you'll be doing

• Own and manage the build, operation, and maintenance of packet core platforms in innovation labs, contributing to delivery plans and platform integration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design, Operations, Development, and QA, while leading technical discussions and investigations across mobile core networks.
• Oversee incident, change, problem, risk, and vulnerability management, using network tools (CNOM, Wireshark, NetScout, ENIQ) to trace and resolve issues.
• Ensure alignment of test environments with the live EE network, driving continuous improvement and promoting automation solutions for the mobile core.
• Work with other business units and third parties to enhance service performance, quality, and customer experience, leading configuration changes via CICD pipelines with thorough sanity checks.

• Expert level knowledge of Packet Core Networks / Cloud Networks
• Hands on Experience on Ericsson Mobile Cloud Core Networks - MME, PCC, PCG, EPG & DNS systems.
• Demonstrate 5G / LTE architecture, call flows and knowledge of protocols such as BGP, PFCP, GTPv2, Diameter, SIP.
• Good understanding of Kubernetes administration activities & troubleshooting.
• Experience in coding languages (Python, Perl) & Automation CI / CD Pipeline and implementing reliability engineering, and automation for patching, deployment and maintenance activities.
