Full Job Description

As a RASM you will be assisting the manager to run the shop and covering their days off and holidays.

Are you a highly motivated and organised individual looking for a new challenge? Do you want to work for a local charity and help make a difference by raising income to help fund care for our patients and families?

No retail experience is required as we can train you; we just require the drive and determination to do a good job.

As RASM you will:

  • Own the daily operations in the absence of the shop manager.

  • Achieve income targets by maximising sales and donations.

  • Provide the highest level of customer service to donors and customers.

  • Lead by example and be able to accept, sort, price, steam and display goods for sale to maximise income within agreed guidelines.

  • Effectively lead the shop volunteers, respectfully supporting their usual tasks and commitments to meet the shop's KPI requirements.

  • Understand and lead by example to develop a positive team spirit and actively promote the work of the hospice.

  • Use social media to promote the shop.

You will have a good standard of education.

  • You will be able to provide an excellent customer experience and service.

    Free onsite parking.

  • Free tea, coffee and toast.

  • We're happy to talk about flexible working, including those with caring responsibilities - while we can't accommodate every flexible working request, we'll try to find a practical solution.

  • Birmingham Hospice is committed to colleague development as an ongoing professional requirement and consider this a priority.

  • For individuals joining the charity from the NHS or another hospice, the employee's continuous previous service with any NHS employer is recognised in respect of pension provision and annual leave.

  • A supportive work environment, with a focus on your mental health and wellbeing.

  • Free emotional, health and financial support.

  • "I am so glad to be here."

Karen Toon swapped the heat of a school kitchen for the friendly surroundings of our new Balsall Common shop when she started as an assistant manager and is loving the opportunity to meet and help customers.

She had previously worked in an office before spending 12 years in a school kitchen but wanted a fresh challenge once her children had got older.

"My children are getting older so don't need me around as much and I saw the advert for the role and thought 'I'm really interested in that'. I learned more about the hospice and decided to apply, and I am so glad to be here," said Karen.

She's relishing the chance to meet customers and work with volunteers.

Karen added: "I realised I enjoyed meeting and speaking with people. When you are working in a kitchen you are cut off from everyone, apart from your own team. I enjoy meeting and chatting with people, and it cheers me up every day."

The hospice is committed to developing a dynamic and diverse workforce, representative of the communities it serves. We ask you, therefore, to complete the Equal Opportunities monitoring form to help us in this aim.

We value each person as an individual - whether they are colleagues, patients, family members, carers or supporters, every person matters. We embrace diversity of culture, background and environment knowing it enriches our workplace and our relationships with our local communities. We are committed to building a culture of inclusion and belonging. We would love to hear from you, about what makes you uniquely you and how this opportunity will support you to succeed.
