Full Job Description

We're hiring enthusiastic, compassionate, and experienced Support Workers on a zero-hour basis to join our team. You'll be providing essential support to a gentleman in his 40s. You'll be working alongside a dedicated team to ensure he receives 24-hour support that is person-cantered and adaptive to his interests and needs. About the Role: In this role, you will support a male in his 40s who values independence, enjoys being actively involved in tasks, and appreciates social activities like woodwork, shopping, model building, LEGO, and science experiments. While he is engaged with life, he does experience occasional behaviours of distress, including environmental aggression, especially under stress. The successful candidate will need a solid background in complex support and positive behaviour support (PBS) and should be familiar with managing behaviours of distress. Ideally, you'll have training in SKIP, or be willing to undergo this training, to ensure you have the skills to address these needs effectively. Responsibilities:

  • Providing compassionate support to help reduce anxiety and build trust.
  • Assisting with daily activities, meal preparation, and medication administration as needed.
  • Understanding and supporting the gentleman's preference not to be labelled as having a disability and fostering a sense of autonomy and respect.
  • Being mindful of any behaviours of distress and employing PBS strategies to navigate them with empathy and professionalism.
  • Committing to shifts for annual leave cover, sickness, or training., A flexible, zero-hour role, offering options for long day shifts (7 AM-10 PM or 8 AM-8 PM) or split shifts, including waking nights and sleep-ins.
  • Comprehensive training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and SKIP, ensuring you have the tools to manage complex behaviours effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong, trust-based relationships.

  • Understanding of SKIP and PBS techniques or a willingness to undergo training to further develop these skills.
  • Ideally, experience in working with individuals with behaviours of distress.
  • A commitment to picking up shifts, attending training sessions, and participating fully in the induction., No driver's license is required, but having one is preferred for added flexibility.
  • Although this home is not gender-specific, applicants must be comfortable supporting a male resident with unique needs.
