Research Assistant

This position will have the responsibility for the collection and processing of routine and research generated biomedical specimens in order to support research activity across various projects within the theme. Use analytical techniques appropriate to the particular research theme requirements. Screen and analyse results of tests carried out and report to academic team and colleagues. Maintain database of results for routine and research purposes. An important part of the role will be to liaise with clinicians and research groups within the Trust and KCL., + Is accountable for his/her practice and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his/her knowledge and professional competence.
+ To ensure good communication with all members of the team, for example through attending team meetings

+ To be responsible for the accuracy of work. To undertake quality control procedures for the department.
+ To assist in research projects as directed
+ Ordering relevant equipment and items for testing and ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
+ To be adaptable to changing workload pressures, by making independent day to day decisions about own workload. The post holder must communicate all problems with, and help obtain help/advice from, appropriate senior staff.
+ To be responsible for the support, organisation and subsequent provision of analysis of routine and research specimens.
+ To participate in all manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations.
+ Use and demonstrate to others the safe use of expensive and complex equipment
+ To ensure that reagents are prepared, stored and used in an appropriate manner.
+ Develop and maintain research results database.
+ To enter their own results and those obtained by others into the database.
+ To maintain the integrity and accuracy of laboratory databases.
+ To comply with national standards for the safe, secure and confidential processing and storage of patient and laboratory information.
+ To comply with the departments procedural policies on accessing patient information on the computer data base.
+ To ensure appropriate processing and storage of laboratory information relating to patient reports.
+ To assist in the provision of annual statistics for work load figures
+ Organise general departmental administration including meeting schedules.
+ To ensure monitoring of all temperature settings of fridges and ovens is documented
+ To use interpretive skills to determine concentration and attention to detail are essential to these processes and form the greater part of the working day.
+ To interpret sequencing laboratory results and take appropriate actions, including the quality controls of the workflow.
+ Actively engage in research initiatives, contributing to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and molecular techniques.
+ Stay abreast of current scientific literature and emerging technologies, incorporating relevant findings into laboratory practices.
+ Collaborate with CIDR research team members to drive innovation and advancements in infectious disease diagnostics.

Applications are sought from a Biomedical Science background. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an eye for detail, excellent communication and organisational skills.
A large part of the role will focus on processing samples and data entry so ability to extract data from medical records is key, as well as this being able to organise yourself, is a key parts of the role.
The post holder will ensure adherence to the Study protocol and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
