Full Job Description

The Royal College of Art is seeking a Research Associate in Knit Design to join the School of Design for a 1-month project. This role involves developing innovative knitted fabrics, both digitally and manually, as part of an exciting interdisciplinary research project in fashion and textiles. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and contribute to both research outputs and project management, including designing swatches, producing digital and physical knitted fabrics, and supporting the development of the project's outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
+ Design and fabricate knitted swatches using manual machines in different gauges.
+ Produce and prototype knitted fabrics based on business partner recommendations.
+ Support project management and coordination between the research team and partners.
+ Assist in documenting and disseminating project findings through publications and exhibits.
+ Ensure compliance with RCA's research ethics, data management, and confidentiality standards.

+ Master's degree in Textiles with significant knitting experience or a BA degree with equivalent knitting industry experience.
+ Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality knitted artefacts and outputs.
+ Strong background in both digital and manual knitted fabric research and design.
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team.
+ Knowledge of textile research methods and a track record of contributing to research projects.
