The Mitchell Centre for Social Network Analysis has an exciting opportunity for a Social Network Analyst to join our research team.,

  • observe if gender impacts how people form, maintain and dissolve social networks in similar manners, and if so, if they obtain similar outcomes (popularity, status, power, economic returns, inclusion, but also social isolation and stigmatization).
  • explore if gendered social network formations and outcomes vary depending on the type of relationship, for example negative and ambivalent relationships.
  • determine if gendered network mechanisms and outcomes vary depending on the context in which they operate, i.e., national domains and social contexts schools, organizations, etc. where gender cultures and policies may differ.
  • The project will capitalise on the large amount of data publicly accessible for which the information on social networks and the characteristics of individuals (i.e. gender) embedded in these networks is available. We want to focus on four research domains, The Research Associate will have expertise in statistical analysis of social networks like multilevel analysis, Exponential Random Graph Models, Linear and logistic mixed effects regression models, Autologistic Actor Attribute Models, and will be able to conduct meta-analysis of their results to test if results distribute heterogeneously, i.e. in different countries, affluent vs deprived schools and neighbourhoods, or across different type of licit and illicit organizations.
