Full Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate in the Transport Section, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, to work on developing models, algorithms and platforms (digital and physical) for resilient system-of-systems Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT). This is a full time, fixed term post for 3 years.

  • You will develop and test models, algorithms and platforms (digital and physical) for a high accuracy, high integrity, high continuity and high availability resilient system-of-systems PNT Global Navigation Satellite Systems and terrestrial systems / sensors and spatial databases for use in all conditions and environments for all applications.
  • The system developed should address both front-end (user / service level) and back-end (sub-functional level) positioning requirements for complete situational awareness, planning, decision making and operational (movement) control.
  • You will also carry out research programmes in PNT, undertake project management, submit publications to refereed journals and attract external research funding.
  • You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in PNT, Geospatial / Geomatic Engineering, or any related field.

    You will have experience of research in PNT systems together with mathematical and statistical and statistical methods for high performance data fusion / integration for synergistic / complementary positioning and navigation
  • Knowledge of systems engineering including requirements, design, development / prototyping, testing and validation is essential together with the ability to produce coding in Matlab, C / C++, and Python.
  • You will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide team management.
