Full Job Description
The Hannon laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is looking to recruit a talented and dedicated Postdoctoral Scientist/Research Associate to join their research group. The team includes a mixture of wet-lab and computational researchers focused on chromatin biology and RNA silencing mechanisms, and together, they aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms of the piRNA pathway. This multidisciplinary research covers a wide range of areas, including transcription, export, and processing of non-coding RNAs, establishment and dynamics of chromatin marks, and ultimately repression of transposable element.
We are looking for a scientist with a desire to explore cutting-edge technologies to reveal fundamental biology and work as part of a supportive and diverse team. The successful candidate will be creative, bring their original contribution to the research project and undertake independent research at the interface of transposon biology, chromatin silencing and small RNA pathways in flies. They should contribute their expertise to the project but will also be able to learn new approaches and to expand into new biological topics.
The successful candidate will have completed or be near completing a PhD in a relevant discipline. Prior post-doctoral research experience would be beneficial but is not a requirement. The role is best suited to candidates with training in molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry and that have a background in small RNA biology and transposable elements. Experience working with Drosophila as a model and in genomics approaches (ChIP-seq/RNA-seq/small RNA-seq) is essential, with expertise in culturing insect cells and NGS analyses highly desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
