Research Business Intelligence and EDGE Reporting Analyst, Band 6 (22.5 hours a week)
This role will provide key business and intelligence information along with data to the R&I Department to inform R&I performance against our R&I Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and national targets, study pipeline and R&I opportunities. This role is integral to reporting, interpreting and advising on research performance and research opportunities. The postholder will have the ability to communicate and explain analytical/ numerical matters and issues to non-analytical/statistical colleagues, and also advise on the optimal analytical techniques to be used in order to achieve the given objective or aim. This will involve persuasive/negotiating skills, as well as the ability to promote collaborative working in R&I across the region. They will work closely with the senior managers across the R&I Department to ensure all areas across R&I have accurate information to support multiple business functions., Take an informatics lead in specific projects that inform R&I business functions in conjunction with system and process change to meet the ever-changing reporting requirements of the Trust and the NHS. This will include information capture, reporting and analysis requirements of the R&I senior management team and support for data monitoring and validation.
- Supervise, train and manage other staff that support the business and data function of the R&I service, acting as an EDGE and ODP (Open Data Platform) champion/guru in this capacity and leading on the implementation of system updates and problem shooting.
- Plan and coordinate their own varied workload and work to achieve agreed objectives.
- Lead analytical projects including data and numerical analysis and the development of reporting solutions that meet the strategic objectives of the R&I service
- Analyse data from R&I's preferred information systems in order to provide timely, accurate and intelligible information to clinical and managerial staff and to external agencies (e.g., NIHR) using the most appropriate data sources and information management technology, e.g. database/spreadsheets, graphical presentations and publications.
- Promote and facilitate the use of the EDGE and ODP systems to users as appropriate demonstrating the commitment to data accuracy and security at all times.
- Maintain and report on the Department key performance indicators (KPIs), analysing and communicating effectively to the relevant, Provide line management and/or supervise staff that support the business and data function including appraisals, professional development of staff, recruitment and where necessary employee relations matters.
- The post holder will work self-directed on a day-to-day basis against agreed objectives with limited supervision.
- The Post holder is responsible for the interpretation of national policy in relation to R&I and establishes Trust standards.
- Provide, display and present data and information and complex data to a variety of staff groups.
- Proactively support user accessibility.
- Demonstrate and explains activities, processes and procedures to others in own work area.
- Provide advice and supervise the ongoing training on R&I information reporting systems to other staff groups, delivering regular teaching sessions to all new members of the teams as part of R&I Induction, as well as through 1:1 training sessions.
- Deliver specialist training on EDGE and support uses to access and use ODP.
- Deliver presentations across the R&I department and region and participate in user groups/forums/regional and national meetings.
- Develop and maintain regular reports to various groups as required, ensuring adherence to local and national standards to ensure high quality data and information identifying missing, incomplete and inaccurate data.
- Ensure the integrity and security of data regarding storage to ensure compliance with Caldicott principles and promote and adhere to the safe usage of sensitive and confidential information.
- Identify system developments and assess this for suitability as appropriate.
- Promote better use of information and information tools within the R&I Department
- Maintain robust systems to protect the rights of subjects involved in research (in accordance with GDPR, Human Rights legislation and ICH GCP) acting to prevent the disclosure of sponsors' proprietary information or subjects' identity to other than authorised individuals.
- There is also a requirement to contribute to and implement policies within their own work area, and is expected to propose changes to working practices in anticipation or as a result of new guidelines, policy or legislation.
- To adhere to departmental and relevant trust policies and procedures relating to information
- Provision and information governance.
- Use EDGE and the NIHR Open Data Platform to develop reports, inform business planning and contribute to service improvement.
- Design, implement, adapt and improve information systems e.g. developing and implementing systems to input, store and disseminate information used in statistical/data analysis for quarterly reporting.
- Design and implement IM&T systems to automate calculations, reporting function and analysis of research and business information,
- Use specialist IT systems to develop R&I numerical and performance reports and specialist technical skills required to extract and manipulate data.
- Excellent keyboard skills and use of IT equipment and programmes. MS Word, Advanced Excel, MS PowerPoint and various databases to monitor activity, systems and processes to produce various reports.
- Travel between sites.
- Concentration required for investigating problems, analysis of performance data and policies, interruptions requiring immediate response.
