Full Job Description

As a Research Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting, delivering and leading high quality projects for internal and external stakeholders, as a consortium partner and within EDF, in the UK and internationally, managing to time, cost and quality., In this role you will undertake techno-economic assessments of energy systems and possible development projects and provide insights and support across all of the Zero Carbon Hubs team projects, managing and contributing to a portfolio of projects relating to Energy Hubs (e.g. hydrogen production, storage, district heating, electrification, direct air capture, industrial decarbonisation), delivering to defined success criteria.

You'll collaborate with and influence different Business Units in the UK (Renewables, Hynamics, Nuclear Operations, Policy), EDF R&D, and/or in partnership with other organisations across EDF Group and externally (UK academia and public and private sector partners), developing new and cementing existing stakeholder relationships, transferring knowledge and communicating project results.

You will monitor technical, commercial and operational innovation in the energy industry and other industries, and source data and information for use in research projects and will lead applications for external funding from Government and research organisations (Innovate UK, DESNZ, Horizon Europe).

There will also be an exciting opportunity to supervise graduates and interns as well as acting as an industrial supervisor for post graduate students studying at UK universities.

Do you have proven experience of working in R&D or commercial/consulting environments focused on the energy transition and sourcing external research funding?

Have you got a background in either engineering, science, maths, or economics background?, We're looking for someone with knowledge of the power generation sector, UK energy systems and new technologies, specifically hydrogen production and end use, direct air capture and energy storage, that could support decarbonisation.

You'll have an engineering, science, maths, or economics background with a master's degree or similar. Chartered status is desirable and be competent in developing financial models and business cases using NPV techniques.

Sometimes we don't have all the data or work with imperfect systems, so you will be pragmatic, resilient, curious, and open to a bit of challenge.
