Full Job Description

The project aims to use a modern methods of applied mathematical modelling, applied to the governing continuum mechanics equations, to form quick-to-compute models of industrial metal forming processes. The governing equations involve elasto-plasticity and potentially large deformations, and it is hoped the resulting models will be suitable for use in optimization and online control of real-world metal forming processes. Moreover, it is hoped the modelling process will give new insights into metal forming, and will provide a framework for future research modelling plasticity and metal forming. The project is funded by UKRI, and involves industrial collaboration with both Tata Steel and Primetals Technologies.

We seek a highly motivated and creative researcher to work with Dr Ed Brambley and his research group on the UKRI-funded project "Applied Mathematical Modelling of Industrial Metal Forming".
