Are you an ambitious Gastroenterology trainee looking for your next challenge?
Do you want to study towards a postgraduate degree (MD or PhD)?
Are you interested in a period out of programme to undertake research under the supervision of a team of Gastroenterologists with an extensive track record of successful research?
Would you like to learn advanced clinical skills in IBD?
The post holder will be required to undertake a leading role in a major research project in the areas of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Bile Acid Diarrhoea and Colorectal Cancer. The role will be supported by the Royal Wolverhampton Gastroenterology Academic Unit led by Professor Matt Brookes and Professor Helen Steed. They will receive supervision from Dr Phil Harvey and Dr Aditi Kumar. The research project will be tailored to the interest of the successful applicant, but will entail a combination of project design, experimental work, data analysis and reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals. Collaboration with other academic teams in the UK along with the pharmaceutical industry is likely. As part of a clinical gastroenterology unit, a close interaction with clinician's guarantees good exposure to clinical experience as part of a wider clinical unit., This post offers an excellent opportunity to enhance research skills and clinical experience in a busy and innovative unit. Clinical service and development opportunities will be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate but is expected to focus on developing advanced skills in IBD. Opportunities include endoscopy training, Dye spray, capsule endoscopy and IBD clinics such as routine follow-up, joint obstetric and joint surgical clinics. Our unit is also a JAG Accredited National Training Centre for Endoscopy running around 30 training courses annually and is also a tertiary referral centre for complex endoscopic procedures. There is no on call work associated with this post.
Research time will be predominantly:
planning/carrying out research in accordance with the project design and delegation of duties
generating the results and interpreting their implications
writing progress reports and preparing results for publication and dissemination via presentations and peer-reviewed journals
presenting research findings to colleagues and at conferences
registering and completing a post-graduate degree (MD/PhD)
