At University of Hull, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world's talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in University of Hull workplace.
These include people from global majority backgrounds; people who have a declared disability; LGBTQI+ people; and women particularly for our Grade 9 and 10 roles.
This is a 5 year, fixed-term contract, funded by the NIHR in which the appointed person will become part of a larger interdisciplinary team of researchers investigating addiction and mental health conditions. Under the leadership of Professor Thomas Phillips, Professor of Nursing in Addiction and Professor Judith Cohen, Hull Health Trials Unit, the research team has secured a five-year award, supported by our partners at the University of York and King's College London, to develop addiction and mental health research based at the University of Hull. The research targets national priorities and the mental health needs of our population with the aim of improving access to care and treatment that works. Working closely with health and social care providers as well as patients and the public, we have developed an ambitious programme of research across three themes
Theme 1:Young people with substance use and mental health presentations.
Theme 2: Adults with substance use and mental health presentations.
Theme 3: Defining the needs of adults with alcohol-related cognitive impairment (ARCI).
This post will be aligned to Theme 3 which will define the needs of those experiencing alcohol-related cognitive impairment (ARCI). The research will help services to identify and care for these people earlier so that longer term problems can be avoided.
We are seeking an exceptional postdoctoral candidate with experience in conducting individual and collaborative research projects involving quantitative methods, including the management and analysis of large clinical datasets. The successful candidate will join a thriving community of researchers examining the impact of addition and mental health problems on health, social care and criminal justice settings. With support of the co-investigators and patient and public contributors the research fellow will take a leading role on developing the overall project plan for the theme and co-ordination of the five-year programme. As the senior research fellow within the programme of research, the post holder will also provide managerial supervision to other research fellows based at the University of Hull employed under the same award. The ideal candidate will have a track record in conducting clinical research within the mental health or addiction specialisms, interest
and knowledge of ARCI, managerial experience, possess a relevant portfolio of publications and have experience of presenting at national/international conferences, as well as an emerging grant capture record.
The post will be based in the award winning Allam Medical Building, University of Hull. The Addiction and Mental Health Research team is part of the thriving academic community within the Faculty of Health Sciences including postgraduates studying PhDs. The research team provides outstanding methodological expertise in high-quality clinical and applied health research. The role would suit an applied health researcher with qualitative research experience and PhD who wishes to pursue a career in applied health research. We value professional growth and will offer opportunities for development, training and conference attendance. In line with the University of Hull agile working policy we are happy to discuss individual requirements around how and where you work.
