Research Fellow in Endoscopy & Bowel Screening

This post would be ideal for a gastroenterologist in the middle or toward the end of their specialist training who wishes to develop a specialist interest in endoscopy. Post holders will be expected to be able to perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD independently and hold JAG certification. The successful applicant would undertake the design and running of several research projects relating to endoscopy, under the supervision of the endoscopy consultants with a view to obtaining a higher degree over a 2-3-year period. Duties will include coordinating their own research activities, and 2-3 clinical sessions per week. There will be at least one dedicated training endoscopy session. The post holder would be in a position to benefit from being exposed to a wide range of advanced endoscopic techniques that are performed at St Marks and the throughout the Trust, including surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, polyposis and hereditary cancers, advanced polypectomy, combined laparoscopic-endoscopic therapies, double balloon enteroscopy and video capsule endoscopy. The post holder will also be required to participate in the endoscopy & gastroenterology on-call rota. A degree of flexibility to help with back filling endoscopy lists will be expected, which may involve cross site working., The successful applicant would undertake the design and running of several research projects relating to endoscopy, under the supervision of the endoscopy consultants with a view to obtaining a higher degree over a 2-3-year period. Duties will include coordinating their own research activities, 2-3 clinical sessions per week (the anticipation being that these would be endoscopy but there may be a need to provide one clinic per week. There will be at least one dedicated training endoscopy session. Participation and support in delivery of training courses, the annual Frontiers meeting, developing training materials and support for other education events and activities will be encouraged. Attendance at all academic sessions within the hospital will be expected. There are weekly educational meetings, Grand Rounds and a polyp MDT that the post-holder would be expected to attend and present. The post holder will also be required to participate in the endoscopy & gastroenterology on-call rota. A degree of flexibility to help with back filling endoscopy lists will be expected, which may involve cross site working.
