Full Job Description

Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Do you have a background in thermodynamics? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research-intensive universities?
The overarching aim of this project is to make new measurements of material properties and update/extend critical databases of thermodynamic data, to be used for the sustainable manufacturing of cement minerals from natural and waste materials.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in high-temperature processing and thermodynamics, inorganic materials characterisation, and writing of scientific/technical publications and reports. Experience in heat capacity and vapor pressure measurements as well as use of a high-temperature drop-calorimeter is highly desirable. You will survey literature thermodynamic data before producing pure and solution clinker and cement phases and measure and fit their thermodynamic data. You will contribute to the University's commitment of producing research and innovation outcomes that will drive economic growth in a sustainable and responsible manner.
This post involves deriving thermodynamic data for inorganic minerals and developing models for the thermodynamic properties of pure and solution phases. The post-holder is also expected to regularly apply for and use equipment e.g., (Quantum Design PPMS) at national facilities, as well as other sophisticated equipment that may become available.
This role will be based at the university of Leeds campus and there is scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

o 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) - That's 42 days a year!
