Full Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Research Fellow to join our multi-disciplinary community in addressing the challenge of managing wastes through advanced thermal conversion processes to recover value. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in high-profile projects of national relevance, aimed at advancing our understanding of the role that advanced thermal conversion has to play in treating organic wastes. This will involve working with industrial partners on two distinct thermochemical pathways: pyrolysis and supercritical water oxidation. You will assist in the design, installation and commissioning of innovative new facilities to operate pilot and demonstrator-scale facilities. The role will involve the operation of the facilities, collecting samples for analysis. This position is instrumental in guiding the water industry towards effective management of treated sewage sludges and other problematic organic wastes. This is an exceptional opportunity for a professional passionate about the environment and the development of exciting new technologies.
We welcome applications from passionate, skilled and committed Chemist or Chemical Engineering graduates with a PhD in relevant subjects to contribute to a programme of research in the field of thermochemical conversion processes., You will have a PhD (obtained or near completion) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and have experience of independently managing research, ideally in the field of waste management, wastewater treatment or thermal treatment methods. A proven track record in laboratory analysis and the management of large, complex datasets is essential. With excellent communication skills, you will have already started to demonstrate an ability to publish high-quality articles and proven yourself to be keen to showcase your work at conferences. Equivalent industry experience would be considered.
