Full Job Description

  • Ability to interact directly with patients and their family members in a professional and compassionate manner. Have the confidence to answer questions about the clinical trials that they are working on within the scope of their knowledge and practice

  • Liaise with consultants, other medical staff and health professionals to ensure the smooth running of trials, including providing and receiving complex information requiring the use of persuasive, motivational or negotiating skills

  • Communicate effectively using computer systems within the Trust eg email and Microsoft Team


  • Undertake Trust training in clinical skills such as venepuncture, specimen handling and processing and patient observations as required per trial protocol following training, supervised practise and formal assessment of competency. Be responsible for maintaining own competence in clinical skills, refer to advice from the Research Nurses if required and retrain if deemed appropriat

  • Be responsible for assisting the Clinical Trials Assistant (CTA) to maintain the investigator site files, essential documentation and Case Report Forms to ensure they are always kept inspection ready

  • Undertake informed consent training, supervised practise and formal assessment of competency as assessed by senior staff members. Be responsible for maintaining own competence in receiving consent and undertake retraining if deemed appropriate

    The primary function of this post is to support the research team with screening,receiving consent and recruiting participants into research studies as deemed appropriate fortheir knowledge, skill set and competence. The work requires initiative, accuracy,attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.


  • The Post holder will be an integral part of the research team and will workcollaboratively on National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies toensure seamless care for research participants at the Trust.

    The Post holder will be a flexible, motivated team player and will be required after aperiod of training to have a good understanding of clinical research and the legislationapplicable to running clinical trials.

    Flexibility is essential as the post holder may work in more than one clinical area asdetermined by research study workload and activity. The main base for the post is inHarrogate hospital, however the individual may be required to work in other hospitals ,in the community surrounding the Harrogate area and also at the departments innovation hub in Knaresborough.
