Full Job Description

We are looking for a Research Software Engineer (RSE) with a background in scientific computing to work with Dr Stephen Green (Mathematical Sciences) on an exciting UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship focussing on AI-driven inference for gravitational waves., The post is offered on a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term basis for a period of 24 months. Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

This is a hybrid role and not 100% remote. There is an expectation the successful candidate lives within a commutable distance and is able to attend the office at least two days a week or as required.

The role is especially suitable for RSEs with a background in astrophysics, gravitational waves, machine-learning, and Bayesian statistics, and who are confident and comfortable working at the intersection of scientific research and digital / data capability.

The successful candidate will be able to evidence:

A postgraduate degree in a relevant branch of physics, astronomy, computer science, mathematics, or a closely related discipline OR

-Expert knowledge of gravitation or machine learning for science. This should include one or more of the following:

~ Gravitational-wave modelling (or equivalent data analyses)

~ Black hole physics

~ Mathematical or numerical relativity

~ Statistical inference

~ Deep learning

-Software development best practices, including version control, and related delivery methodologies, Disability Confident
