Full Job Description

The Department of Chemistry is recruiting for a Research Technician (maternity cover) to join the NMR Spectroscopy Facility which supports the diverse range of research activities of the department.
Reporting to the Head of Organic and Biological NMR Spectroscopy in the Chemistry Research Laboratory they will work closely with other facility staff to provide training and support for users of the NMR facilities which includes post-graduate research students and postdoctoral scientists, master students and academic visitors.
They will undertake experimental solution NMR service work for the department and for external organisations under guidance of the NMR Service manager, including multinuclear and variable temperature experiments and work with cryogenic probes. They will also be responsible for coordinating the supply of cryogenic liquids (N2 and He) and the filling schedules for all spectrometers in the facility, and will assist with the routine maintenance and servicing of NMR instruments., Applications for the vacancy are to be made online. The successful candidate will hold a BSc or equivalent in Chemical Sciences (or extensive technical experience in a directly relevant area of the Chemical Sciences in Industry or Academia). They will have an interest in supporting chemical research, have a demonstrable interest in analytical chemistry and will have experience in applying NMR spectroscopy.

This post is to cover the absence of the substantive post-holder, who is taking a period of maternity leave, this is a fixed-term position of one year based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Mansfield Road, Oxford. Ideally you will be able to start at the beginning of January 2025, or shortly after.
