Full Job Description

We're privileged to work with some amazing people here at West Street where we provide temporary accommodation for adults with learning disabilities and additional needs. We focus on an individual's resourcefulness, strengths and abilities to enable them to develop the best strategies to face life's challenges and live safely in the community. As a Residential Services Officer you'll play a key role providing personalised support, so people can develop the essential life skills needed to achieve a fulfilling, independent and safe life outside of the service.

Each of the people who stay with us is unique with their own individual physical, mental, social and emotional needs. You'll enjoy this diversity and use your person-centred approach to focus on their strengths, promoting their independence and tailoring your support to the individual. This will include helping people with eating and drinking, taking medication, personal care and communication. We aim to share our culture of care, respect and independence with everyone that uses our service and adopt an inclusive approach in everything we do.

You'll have an understanding of crisis services and/or people with high support needs, or challenging behaviour. Experience of enabling and providing care in a crisis or residential service environment would be an advantage. Most importantly, you'll demonstrate our core values, showing patience, empathy and compassion and share our commitment to enabling people to lead full and active lives as independently as possible. Our Residential Services Officers must be strong team players, so you'll need excellent communication skills for building positive relationships. You'll also need good collaboration skills for working in partnership with a diverse range of people including the people who stay with us, their families and carers, as well as other professionals and colleagues. Sound basic IT and accurate information recording skills are also essential.

In return, we can offer you a comprehensive induction programme, so that you'll have all the training you need to do a fantastic job. You'll also get great satisfaction from supporting people get the most out of their stay with us. We're committed to your personal development and can support you to undertake QCF training and GSCC registration. Joining us as a Residential Services Officer, will help prepare you for potential opportunities in the future to work at a senior level.

As this is a 24/7 service, you'll be required to work a shift pattern to respond to the demands of the service. Your working pattern will include working every other weekend and a variety of shifts including early, late, sleep-in shifts and bank holidays for which enhancements will be paid.
