Full Job Description

The role of residential worker is to fully support the young people learn enjoy and reach positive outcomes. This can be through supporting young people to follow routines, provide support in meetings or appointments as well as being a mentor. As a Residential Worker, you would support children who are preparing for adulthood with independent living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, budgets and education., The role supports vulnerable young people whose ages range from 8-18 who reside in our home in Aylesbury. The home promotes education attendance and positive routines for young people. We encourage young people to participate in community events and try new things. We value our young people's input to the running of the home, so we hold regular meetings and discussions to support positive outcomes.,

  • To encourage and stimulate emotional and social growth by devising and organising out-of-school activities, encouraging the children/young people to socialise and to join organisations outside the Home.
  • To facilitate children/young people to develop life and social skills and age-appropriate independence and to learn to manage their own behaviour through the establishment of purposeful and constructive relationships.
  • To undertake link worker tasks and responsibilities.
  • To assist in maintaining proper records in accordance with the recording guidelines.
  • To work in accordance with Service policies, the Children's Homes Regulations 1991, and current Health & Safety legislation.
  • To attend relevant courses and study days to develop and broaden awareness and skills in accordance with the Home's staff development/training plan.
  • To take responsibility for the daily running of the Home on a planned basis in the absence of senior staff and the Head of Home (grade 4 position only).
  • The role may require driving (however this is not essential)., Please note this role involves shift working including alternative weekends working, this can include sleep in duties.

    Ideally, you would hold a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (RQF) or equivalent qualification, however it is not essential if the candidate is willing to work towards this qualification.

  • Committed to working with children and young people aged 8 to 18 who present complex and often, challenging behaviours.
  • Have appropriate knowledge and experience of working with children and committed to training and continued professional development.
  • Be a team player and be approachable.
  • Creative and able to use your own initiative whilst working in a challenging environment.
  • Enthusiastic and highly adaptable to changing circumstances.

    The Elms is a home for young people aged 8-18, accommodating up to five residents. Our mission is to inspire and support these young individuals to reach their full potential. The young people we care for have faced various adversities, often reflected in their behaviours.

  • Salary - £26,144 - £33,212 (Plus sleep-in allowance)
