Full Job Description
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
- To form part of the Consultant team delivering clinical services to patients with Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, through delivery of impatient care, specialist outpatient clinics, and ambulatory care.
- To work closely with the wider CF/BE/PCD MDT.
- To deliver clinical sessions to support the management of General Respiratory patients. We manage 5 base respiratory wards (134 beds), some with sub-specialty interest including pleural disease, cancer and cystic fibrosis. There is also a dedicated ward for non-invasive ventilation and we are currently exploring the development of a respiratory support unit (RSU). Respiratory Medicine at Glenfield manages 5 base respiratory wards (134 beds), each with a sub-specialist theme: Clinically we have specialist services in Lung cancer with advanced bronchoscopic and pleural techniques, Mesothelioma and regional MDT, pleural diseases, severe asthma: nationally commissioned centre, cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis, TB, advanced COPD, complex home ventilation, interstitial lung disease, exercise and sports medicine and allergy. Glenfield CDU is the largest single cardio-respiratory receiving unit in the UK taking 70+ patients, on average, daily. 70% of our attendances are direct from primary care. Supporting this emergency workload we have established ambulatory emergency care (AEC) services for pulmonary embolism and pleural disease, GP assessment and same day emergency care (SDEC) Units. There are also comprehensive specialist nursing teams for COPD, asthma, lung cancer, ILD, ventilation, bronchiectasis/ CF, TB and pneumonia. The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement. -To participate in general respiratory service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs. - Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures; -Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally. - In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work. -The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers - this might include investigations of incidents or complaints. -The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups. The appointee will also have supervision responsibilities for junior medical staff within the specialty. If appropriate the postholder will be named in the contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers. -The post-holder is expected to participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose. -The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role. - The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.
Respiratory Medicine at Leicester Hospitals has a national and international reputation for its academic and clinical services. We are looking to appoint a locum consultant for 12 months to work as part of a CF/Bronchiectasis/PCD MDT comprising 4 Consultants, 2 Registrars, a ward-based team of postgraduate doctors in training, 1 CF ACP, 2 CF Specialist Nurses, 2 Bronchiectasis Specialist Nurses, 1 PCD Specialist Nurse, a team of 5 Specialist Physiotherapists, a CF administrator, a PCD administrator, a CF Specialist Pharmacist, a Specialist Psychologist, a Specialist Dietician, a linked CF Diabetes Nurse Specialist, a Consultant Microbiologist, and a dedicated PA to the Consultants. We pride ourselves on being a patient-focused, holistic, and innovative team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the CF/ Bronchiectasis service, and undertake projects aimed at Service development and Quality Improvement. Although previous specialist experience in CF/Bronchiectasis would be ideal, it will be possible for us to provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to train and develop skills in this area. We are primarily looking for an applicant with enthusiasm, a willingness to work as part of an MDT, and a passion to develop and deliver high quality services to our patient cohort.
