Full Job Description
The post holder will be based at the Royal Free Hampstead (RFH) site and will join the thriving respiratory team with existing sub-speciality interests, the post holder will contribute to a team delivering care for patients with sleep disordered breathing, including patients requiring complex home ventilation as part of a team including 3 other consultants within the respiratory department. The post holder will also contribute to general respiratory care including in-patient management of respiratory patients. The post holder will operate 3 outpatient clinics per week.
They will share the inpatient respiratory ward cover at RFH with other respiratory consultants managing patients with the full breadth of respiratory conditions as well as providing specialist in-reach to the medical and acute admissions units (MAU and AAU) and a consult service to other inpatient specialist services in conjunction with the specialty trainees. The candidate will have an opportunity to join a successful respiratory department as well as widening participation in clinical research activities.
The post holder will also contribute to general respiratory care including in-patient management of respiratory patients. The post holder will operate 3 outpatient clinics per week.

Research and development is a major component of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust strategy and reflects the Trust's desire to maintain its position as one of the top ten trusts for R&D income in the UK. The research efforts of the Trust and Medical School are closely integrated and there are extensive facilities for both clinical and basis science research. Consultant staff are expected to participate in research according to their skills and speciality. Applicants should prepare an outline of the research they would wish to undertake if appointed.

The post holder will be based at the Royal Free Hampstead (RFH) site and will join the thriving respiratory team with existing sub-speciality interests, the post holder will contribute to a team delivering care for patients with sleep disordered breathing, including patients requiring complex home ventilation as part of a team including 3 other consultants within the respiratory department.
Average of 2.5 outpatient clinics per week - (typically 4 new patients and 8 follow ups). Managing patients with sleep disordered breathing including domiciliary Non-Invasive Ventilation for chronic respiratory failure and clinics supporting the Central and Northwest London (CNWL) Community Respiratory Service
· 8 weeks per year providing General Respiratory ward cover managing respiratory inpatients plus 8 weeks providing support for referrals on other wards. The number of patients varies, but is typically in the region of 15-20 patients.
· Contribute to the appropriate triage and investigation of referrals to respiratory medicine as part of the Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) pathway.
· Participate in joint acute medicine and respiratory on call rota. For acute medicine on calls this will be 1/12 weekends on site on call from 9am - 3pm. This will involve supporting patients on the acute medical and respiratory wards and post take duties on outlier wards. There is an additional 1 in 7 weekends respiratory phone service 8am-8pm, with no onsite commitment unless there is an emergency. The phone service involves discussion with the respiratory (on site) registrar of complex patients that require consultant input. New Respiratory admissions will be post-taked by the onsite acute medicine consultant.
· Sleep and Ventilation MDTs
· Participate in service development and policy review including clinical audit.
· Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
· Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme of UCL Medical School students attached to respiratory medicine.
· Participate in clinical audit.
· Contribute to Sleep and Ventilation research
· Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
· Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
